Some Tips to keep your marketing activities alive in the run up to Christmas and New Year...
We’re a week in to December already, hurtling towards Christmas. Everyone is busy doing a million and one things. Unless you’ve got a business selling potential Christmas gifts, then December can be a quiet month for many industries. So what’s the point in marketing in December?
The whole point of marketing is to make yourself known to your target audience, so it’s not a good idea to simply disappear for a few weeks and then expect to be remembered after an alcohol and food induced Christmas haze. Whilst business may be quiet right now, you can stay present and ensure you stay visible, so when things pick up again, your audience is still familiar with you, and you pop in to their minds. With a few creative and simple ideas, you can maximise your business’s exposure, connect with your audience, and get ready for the challenges of the new year.
Here are a few promotional and marketing ideas to inspire you in the coming weeks…
1. Don’t forget to wish your customers a Happy Christmas and a happy new year! A quick email, social media post or temporary message on your homepage are all nice touches. Also think about directly messaging people who you have engaged with throughout the year. A short, but pleasant conversation can really go a long way to build relationships with prospects and existing customers.
2. Write a blog reflecting on the year and looking forward to the new year ahead. There’s plenty to reflect on in 2020 that’s for sure. What do you have coming up in 2021 that might interest your customers?
3. Spend time updating your website and business listings. Make sure all your details are correct on all platforms, so that when customers want to contact you, they’re sent to the right place.
4. A good reputation is important for your business, but remembering to ask for reviews can be difficult when you’re juggling so many different things. While business is quiet, this might be an ideal time to ask. Don’t pester people for reviews, nobody likes that, but if you get the opportunity to chat to a customer, there’s no harm in asking for a few words. They can be used on social media, your google business listing, your website, even on your brochures and print. Do remember to respond to any reviews you get. Give thanks to people for making the effort to do it.
5. Get your marketing plan ready for at least the first quarter of the new year so that you can hit the ground running. Be aware of what you’re going to be doing after Christmas and what your goals will be.
6. If you have merch, now is a great time to send it out. A free gift at Christmas time is always welcome, and it’s an opportunity to get your brand in front of people. Send it to prospective clients and existing ones.
7. Change your aesthetic on your website and social pages to reflect the time of year and really get into the spirit of things. Just don’t forget to change it back in January!
So there's a few things to do to keep your marketing activities alive during December and set you up for a great start in January. No matter how much or how little you manage to get done, it's better than doing nothing! Good luck!
